I couldn't write about my 2013 season without crediting my parents for all they have done for me throughout the years. There are 4 things I am so thankful that they provided me with over the years. When I was younger, my mom would wake me and ask the same question every morning: "Veda, do you want to be ordinary or extraordinary today?" Well, what little kid wants to be plain and ordinary? "EXTRAORDINARY!" I exclaimed. I have grown up with this engrained in my head and, as cliche as it sounds, I believed I could achieve my dreams. I believed that I could put the "extra" in ordinary if I had the passion to do so. So thanks for giving me the chance to dream, mom and dad.
One thing's for sure... my parents never let anything come easy to me. No matter what I wanted, I HAD to work for it. When I was 8 years old and wanted to attend horse camp, they said I had to find a way to earn $400 to go - and I did. It felt great to hand that money over for a chance to put on those boots and overalls so I could brush and ride those smelly horses. Ever since then, I've prided myself on working and paying for things I want. I've watched my Dad put on his work clothes every morning without complaint and go out in all weather conditions to unselfishly provide for his family. I never see my Mom sit down... she's always teaching, cooking, gardening, taking care of the home and family. So I thank you both for the work ethic you've engrained in me. When I was born, my parents vowed to raise me to be as healthy as possible. They went against the norm and did what they thought was right. I witnessed family and friends putting them down and telling them they shouldn't be so different. But I am so grateful that my parents never gave in. Thank you for teaching me that it's good to be unique and to stand up for what I truly believe in. I was always allowed to choose my own activities. I was never forced to do what my parents did or even what they wanted me to do. I do what I do because I WANT to. And, for that, I thank you for supporting me in what I love to do. That's a big reason I've found success in attaining my goals. Jokes were made this past weekend at Nationals that my parents were upgraded from Cat 2 to Cat 1 parents but, who are we kidding, my parents are so PRO. Love you guys - Veda Jane
